Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct is effective September 10, 2018.

Art World Conference is a gathering of individuals who share a focus on visual art and the various fields with which it intersects. Art World Conference is an inclusive, cooperative environment where all artists, arts professionals, academics, and interested non-practitioners are welcomed, open dialogue is encouraged, and all perspectives are appreciated.

All attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at our conference are required to agree with the following code of conduct. The conference organizers will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everyone.

Need Assistance?

Please reach out directly and immediately to the conference organizers. You can also reach out to any staff member of Art World Conference, or any Art World Conference volunteer, while at the conference. You will find at least one volunteer or staff member at the registration desk during the conference and pre-conference workshops. We can also be reached via the Art World Conference email: ask@artworldconference.com

All information will be kept confidential unless we determine that disclosure with appropriate third parties (including but not limited to law enforcement) is necessary. We will discuss your options with you before we take any step unless your security or that of other attendees is at risk.

The Short Version

We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or experience levels. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks, workshops, social events, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and other online media, except for talks and workshops that communicate in advance that such content will be discussed. Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organizers.

The Long Version

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, experience levels, sexual images in public spaces that are not consented, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Anyone asked to stop any harassing behavior is expected to comply immediately. Please respect someone else’s “no” and “stop.”

Sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material. Booth staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualized environment.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers and staff may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of conference staff immediately.

Conference staff can be identified via their names tags and/or badges, and can also be reached via the Art World Conference email: ask@artworldconference.com

Conference staff will be happy to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.

We expect participants to follow these rules at conference and workshop venues and conference-related social events.

Thank you for your cooperation and participation!
